The exchange of goods and services is a fundamental survival principle that has prevailed throughout history and in the world. Trade fairs, or fairs/exhibitions, probably started with manufacturers displaying their wares in public places. Sellers; they tried to talk one-on-one with potential buyers to explain why their own manufactured goods were better than existing ones. For this reason, it is said that the foundations of trade fairs are based on the old established markets in the Middle East. ​ ​ Towards the end of the Middle Ages, with the footsteps of the capitalist order, the foundations of trade fairs were laid when artisans and farmers began to exhibit their products by going to markets in different countries. In the 1700s, fair setup became a very important event in Europe and North America. Trade Fair organization was not only focused on product trade, but has become an important commercial, cultural and entertainment activity in which circus and many cultural events were once organized in order to attract more people. Along with the Industrial Revolution, many technological innovations were introduced to people on the occasion of trade fairs and now specialized trade fairs were born and took their current form. ​ ​
